Natural Product Drug Discovery
A number of the pipeline products in development are natural products or derivatives of natural products that benefit from Abraxis nab™ technology. A key feature of natural products is their enormous structural and chemical diversity. This diversity makes natural products a fertile resource for finding novel compounds that interact with new targets for drug discovery. Accordingly, Abraxis has established a proprietary natural product library of approximately 100,000 semipurified screening samples derived from microorganisms (more than 65,000 strains of actinomycetes, fungi, and bacteria) retrieved from a collection of more than 30,000 soil samples representing geographic, habitat, and genetic diversity from all over the world. The natural product library is being screened for novel Hsp90 inhibitors to provide second-generation products.

New Technologies
In addition, Abraxis is aggressively pursuing a multitude of potential candidates for targeted pathways and new technologies. These opportunities include new screening targets and targeted libraries for drug discovery, peptide technologies for use against multi-drug resistant infections, and technologies that accelerate the discovery of first-in-class drug development candidates that are highly specific (and may have reduced risk of adverse side-effects) and address new therapeutic indications.
